Research Integrity

Responsible conduct
Every research program begins with a defined question and a documented approach. Methods, assumptions, observations, limitations, and results are recorded accurately. Evidence is never changed, omitted, or presented selectively to create a preferred conclusion.
Evidence and records
Research records must make it possible to understand what was done, what was observed, and how a conclusion was reached. Where appropriate, work should be repeatable and findings should distinguish clearly between established evidence, professional judgment, and unresolved uncertainty.
People and privacy
Before research involves people, personal information, or confidential organizational data, we determine what consent, privacy protections, and independent review are required. The work does not begin until the appropriate safeguards are in place.
Artificial intelligence
Researchers remain accountable for work produced with artificial intelligence. AI generated material must be reviewed, important claims must be verified, and confidential information must not be submitted to systems that have not been approved for its use.
Security and potential misuse
Research may create knowledge or technology that could be misused. We consider security, safety, and potential harm throughout the work and may restrict access, publication, or technical detail when responsible disclosure requires it.
Independence and conflicts
Financial, personal, customer, or organizational interests that could affect the research must be disclosed. Commercial value does not change what the evidence says.
Corrections and unsuccessful results
A result does not need to be successful to be valuable. Limitations, negative findings, and failed approaches are part of the research record. Material errors are corrected when discovered.
Raising a concern
Questions or concerns about research conducted by N49 Labs can be sent to info@n49labs.ca. Concerns will be reviewed carefully and handled with appropriate confidentiality.
